How We Can Help

Import and Export Documentary Credits

We advise on every stage of a letter of credit transaction, from initial structuring through to execution. This includes documentation and payment structures, transferable and confirmed LCs, usance payable at sight (UPAS) arrangements, and pre- and post-shipment financing, helping you reduce discrepancies and secure timely payment.

Documentary Collections

We manage and advise on import and export collections, covering documents against payment (D/P) and documents against acceptance (D/A). Our support includes assessing customer and bank risk, arranging avalisation to strengthen payment security, and structuring open-account financing solutions.

Bank Guarantees and Standby LCs

We provide advisory and facilitation for tender bonds, performance guarantees, advance payment guarantees and standby letters of credit. For project-based businesses, we also help address the financing and banking requirements needed to secure these instruments.

Commodity Operations

We offer end-to-end transaction management, operational support and advisory for commodity trades, ensuring efficient and accurate execution from initiation through to settlement.

Who This Is For

  • Importers and exporters using letters of credit or documentary collections
  • Contractors and suppliers requiring tender, performance or advance payment guarantees
  • Commodity traders who need reliable operations from initiation to settlement
  • Businesses working with new banks, entering new markets or adopting unfamiliar payment structures

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a letter of credit and a documentary collection?

With a letter of credit, the issuing bank commits to pay once compliant documents are presented. With a documentary collection, banks handle the documents but do not guarantee payment. We help you choose the right structure for the level of risk involved.

What is a UPAS letter of credit?

A usance payable at sight (UPAS) LC allows the seller to be paid at sight while the buyer pays at a later date, with a bank funding the gap. We advise on when it makes sense and how to structure it.

Can you help us obtain a bank guarantee for a tender?

Yes. We advise on tender bonds, performance guarantees and advance payment guarantees, and on the information and requirements your bank will need in order to issue them.

What is the difference between a bank guarantee and a standby LC?

Both protect the beneficiary if the applicant fails to perform, but they follow different rules and market practices. Bank guarantees are commonly issued under URDG 758, while standby LCs typically fall under ISP98 or UCP 600. We help you determine which instrument your counterparty will accept and how to structure it.

What happens if documents under an LC contain discrepancies?

Discrepant documents can lead to payment delays, fees or refusal. We review documentation before presentation to minimise discrepancies and, where issues arise, advise on how to resolve them with the bank.
